I'm a professor in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics at North Dakota State University and Director of the North Dakota Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise. I am also an Associate Editor of the academic journal Public Finance Review.
I am the author of a quarterly North Dakota Economic Outlook report published by the North Dakota Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise. Recently, I have been invited to talk about the North Dakota Economic Outlook to a variety of audiences including the International Legislators' Forum, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis Regional Economic Conditions Forum, and the Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC Economic Outlook Forum.
I primarily teach courses in microeconomics, game theory and strategy, and public economics. I conduct research on applied topics using a variety of applied theoretical and econometric methods. My research has been published in journals such as Public Choice, Applied Economics, Contemporary Economic Policy, European Journal of Political Economy, and The Journal of Happiness Studies. Most recently my research has come to focus on the societal impacts of economic freedom. Generally, I will research anything as long as it is interesting! Current projects range from investigating economic freedom and philanthropy to the effect of personality trait on word of mouth in advertising.
